Fritz Bixler, AMFT & APCC

Meet Fritz

How I work with you:
I prioritize the personal sovereignty of my clients, and believe that you are the expert on your lived experience. I view therapy as a collaborative process of helping you carve out your authentic path to self-actualization. I use a trauma-centered, attachment-based lens in my work, and value humor, creativity, and self-compassion as agents of change. I offer a personalized approach to healing using a combination of straightforward talk therapy, creative arts modalities, and concrete self-regulation strategies. As a drama therapist, I utilize a range of embodied techniques to help you reclaim your narrative, explore different aspects of yourself, and radically embrace each unfolding moment. Through self-expression and ritual, we can uncover deeper meaning and hone the skills we need to improve our lives. I work with kids and adults of all ages, as well as with couples and families. I have a passion for supporting neurodivergent clients—including folks with autism, ADHD, giftedness (and ex-giftedness), high sensitivity, BPD, and complex PTSD. I also connect deeply with those on the path to recovery from abuse, self-harm, burnout, and systemic injustice. I belong to many communities, and identify as neurodivergent, queer, and nonbinary. I draw upon my experience to form genuine connections with clients, and provide affirming therapy for LGBTQ+ clients, polyamorous partners, and non-traditional families.

I am located in Oakland, CA and provide telehealth services to anyone who resides in California.
Please sign up on my wait list if you'd like in-person therapy with me.

My Education and Experience:

Before going into private practice, I worked as a Substance Use Disorder Counselor, focusing the treatment of PTSD and co-occurring mental health conditions. I have experience with Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Seeking Safety, and 12-Step Methodologies.

I also worked as a play therapist and psychometrician, helping to provide Autism and ADHD assessments for children, teens, and adults. I have a Master’s in Counseling Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies, with a concentration in Drama Therapy.

As an undergraduate, I double majored in Theater & Performance Studies and History at Stanford University, and have a background in playwriting, directing, and community organizing.
