Therapy for religious trauma, complex trauma, neurodivergent and queer folks, and anyone who has always felt like "too much."
Sacramento in person, all of California by telehealth.

Hi I'm Jess,

If you were the "problem child" who felt too deeply, said the wrong thing, or never quite fit, I get it, and I'm glad you're here.

I'm a queer, neurodivergent therapist who specializes in religious trauma (especially Evangelical and Protestant backgrounds), complex trauma, anxiety, OCD, ADHD, Level 1 Autism, Dyslexia, and LGBTQ+ identity. I work with teens, young adults, and adults in individual, couples, and family sessions.

My style is relational, quirky, and tailored to your brain. If your brain needs to know the science behind an intervention or to understand the “why” I am happy to support your intellectual process inaddition to the emotional one.  I use parts work (IFS), attachment theory, narrative therapy, existential approaches, and DBT skills.

Sessions can include art, sand tray, and fidgets, and I'm happy to explain things with pop culture references and silly analogies if that's how your brain makes sense of things. You can tangent, stim, pace, or skip eye contact.

If "validate your feelings" feels like a foreign language, I'll help you find a way into your emotions that actually works for you.

Religious trauma and deconstruction

I spent a year at Fuller Theological Seminary, and I know biblical theology, church history, and the structure of high-control religion well enough to explain why it works the way it does. I understand Evangelical and other Protestant denominational cultures, purity culture, and spiritual abuse. I'm also familiar with Catholic traditions and the interconnected experience of growing up in an immigrant church so you won't have to translate any of it for me.

This work is especially close to my heart for queer clients who really tried to be "the good, devoted religious kid." We'll explore your values and build a worldview that's yours, whether that is disentangled from what you were taught or in alignment with your spiritual beliefs. Whether you're leaving faith, rebuilding it, or sitting somewhere in between, you lead.

For people who grew up too fast, or were "too much"

If you were the responsible one, the caretaker, the gifted kid, or the one who got labeled difficult, you may now feel burnt out, behind on all the things you missed, or unsure who you are outside of your achievements. I'm passionate about helping people grieve what they didn't get, make sense of the patterns they learned to survive, and make room to play, explore, and catch up on their own terms.

Neurodiversity, OCD, and anxiety

I work with ADHD, autistic, dyslexic, and gifted or formerly gifted clients, including adults who suspect they're neurodivergent and never got an answer. I'm especially good with strong intellectualizers who live in their heads. For OCD, I use IFS, ERP and some I-CBT, and I love designing exposures that are creative and a little silly, and doing them together in session. You won't be handed a worksheet and left alone with your fears.

Couples, ethical non-monogamy, and family work

I work with couples, polycules, and ethically non-monogamous partnerships, and with families, including parents and caregivers of teens. I see conflict as an opportunity for deeper intimacy once you have the right tools, and I want you to leave with communication and repair skills you can use long after therapy ends.

Grief and crisis

I'm comfortable with the heavy stuff. Grief isn't something to fix but something to witness, whether it's generational, the loss of a parent or loved one, or the loss of a pet, lets find creative outlets to process your grief. I'm also experienced with suicidal ideation, self-harm, intrusive thoughts, and psychosis from my crisis work, so you can say the hard things here.
